Art is worth thinking about every day! I thrive on having the opportunity to paint, draw, be creative, talk with other artists, or teach art classes. Children are especially fun to work with and I have volunteered or had work to teach art in school classrooms for about 8 years now. Cheers if you love art too!

4th Grade Art Lesson
These are some pictures from a volunteer project I did with one 4th grade class last year. The students had to follow directions, think of design ideas quickly and spontaneously, and fill the final work in with marker lines. It was great to see how each artist perceived the lesson. This was about a 30-45 minute lesson in a class of about 27 students, and another session was done in class to finish coloring.

This is really interesting. Tell me more about what guidelines you gave the students for this lesson.I like the patterns, juxtapositions and use of a wide range of colors. -- CL
ReplyDeleteThis lesson started by having the students make spontaneous decisions to place, for example; 3 vertical lines, two horizontal lines, a circle, etc. Then they were asked to color the smallest shapes first, and fill in every shape solidly with marker lines. The kids enjoyed seeing how different their work was from their neighbors, and they had a lot of creative control even though they were given the same set of directions.
